MMDCEs list: Volta region remains calm and peaceful after announcement

In what appears to be a general acceptance of President Akufo-Addo’s nominees for all 18 Districts and Municipalities in the Volta Region, the region has remained calm and peaceful several hours after the announcement of new Municipality and District Chief Executives for the NPP’s second-term administration.

The Minister for Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, Dan Botwe at a press briefing on Sunday, announced the names of all 260 MMDCEs after several months of wait and expectations from the Ghanaian public and members of the New Patriotic Party.

The announcement has since generated tension and rancor in some constituencies in the country, with party members clashing and forcefully locking party offices to register their displeasure at some of the choices made.

But in the case of the Volta region, there appears to be calm across all Districts and Municipalities.

This according to the NPP’s Volta Regional Communications Director, Pope Yao Yevu, the relative peace in the region is as a result of an earlier caution statement issued by the party’s Regional Chairman, Makafui Kofi Woanya.

He said, “I do believe that the peaceful and calm atmosphere we are seeing can be attributed by the press statement issued by the Regional Chairman, Makafui Kofi Woanya to the effect that party faithfuls, the executives, and I mean the rank and file of the party should accept the nominees of His Excellency, the President, so I think it can be attributed to that and also for the fact that the President has actually nominated the right calibre of people.”

Mr. Yevu, however admitted that, even though not all persons in the party would agree with everyone of the nominations, it is the resolution of the party not to engage in anything untoward in attempts to disapprove the choice of any of the nominees.

In the Volta region, seven (7) of the incumbent MMDCEs have been retained while out of the 11 new entrants, only one is a female.

The incumbents renominated include, Anthony Avorgbedor (M) for Ketu North Municipality, Thomas Zonyirah Moore (M) for Central Tongu, Enerst Appau (M) for Ho West, James Etornam Flolu (M) for Afadzato South, Seth Yormewu (M) of Anloga, Phanuel Kadey Donkor (M)
of Adaklu and Edmond Kudjo Atta (M) for North Dayi.

The new entrants are Prosper Kofi Patu (M) for Akatsi North, Seth Kwashie Agbi (M) for South Tongu, Maxwell Lugudor (M) for Ketu South, Emmanuel Gemega (M) for Keta, Divine Richard Bosson (M) for Ho Municipal, Martin Kofitsey Nyahe (M) for Akatsi South, Noble Daniel Awumey (M) for Hohoe, Emelia Emefa Adziamah, (F) for Agotime-Ziope, Geoffrey Badasu (M) for Kpando, Godwin Dzadzawa (M) for South Dayi and Divine Osborn Fenu (M) for the North Tongu District.
