The Ghana Premier League Easter fixtures produced some exciting and surprising results especially for clubs battling with relegation.
Frank Mbella Etouga scored his 17th goal of the season for Asante Kotoko but it was not enough to give the Porcupine Warriors all the three points against Real Tamale United. After their home ban was lifted, RTU faced Asante Kotoko in an interesting game. Assistant captain for RTU, Ronald Frimpong stepped up after a penalty was awarded and slotted into the net to open the scoring account on the 26th minute. Hearts of Oak loanee, Victor Aidoo scored the second for RTU in the 73rd minute before Etouga scored in th 85th. The win still maintains RTU on the 16th position.
At the Nana Agyemang Badu park in Dormaa, Aduana Stars hosted Ashantigold Sporting Club in a not so exciting game. The game which was supposed to be the cracker of the weekend considering the positions of both clubs ended goalless. Both teams were aware of the attacking threats of their opponents but it was the Miners who were the happier side after the final whistle. Aduana are however still third on the log while Ashantigold drop to the 11th position.
At the Accra Sports stadium, former FIFA U 20 World Cup winner, Samuel Inkoom scored his debut goal for Hearts of Oak with delightful freekick against Elmina Sharks. However, Sharks equalised through Michael Asamaoh. Hearts remain sixth while Elmina Sharks are bottom.
At the Dun’s Park in Bibiani, goals from Draman Yahaya in the 35th minute and Agyemang Opoku in the 58th minute ensured that the “Gye Nyame” lads were victors over Accra Great Olympics. Maxwell Quaye scored the only goal for “Oly Dade” on the 24th minute. Goldstars now move to the 12th position while Olympics are 4th.
After going four games without a win, West Africa Football Academy ended their winless run with a win at home against Berekum Chelsea. Michael Zuo broke the deadlock in the game for WAFA in the second minute. The Sogakope lads doubled their lead through a penalty from Sampson Agyapong before the first half. With just two minutes into the second half Henry Ansu of Chelsea scored from the spot kick. However, Emmanuel Agyemang scored the third for WAFA on the 51st minute while Henry Ansu scored his second for Berekum Chelsea.
At the Elwak stadium in Accra, Legon Cities beat Medeama SC 2-1 to send them to the 10th position while Medeama drop to the 5th position. Forward, Rahman Abdul (53rd minute) and Hans Kwofie (61st and 90+9th minute) scored for the home side while Vincent Atinga scored for the visitors in the 87th minute through a penalty.
In an interesting game in Techiman, Augustine Okrah and Emmanuel Boakye Owusu scored in the 31st and 62nd minute respectively to give Bechem the lead. Things went downward for the Hunters when Techiman Eleven Wonders scored in the 81st, 98th and 99th minute to give them all three points. The win takes Eleven Wonders from the relegation zone. In other games, Karela United beat Dreams FC by 1-0 at the Crossby Awuah Memorial Park in Anyinase. Karela United scored on the 25th minute kind courtesy Umar Bashiru to mark his 9th goal of the season.
Accra Lions also beat King Faisal 1-0 at the Baba Yara Sports stadium. The win catapults the Lions to the 9th position while King Faisal drop to the 14th position.
