Bolt makes donations to two institutions as part of CSR activities

As part of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities for the first quarter of 2023, Bolt, Ghana’s leading ride-hailing platform, has made two separate donations to the Orthopaedic Training Centre (OTC) and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA).

Under the theme, “Supporting mobility for all,” Bolt embarked on a donation exercise in line with the company’s strategy to ensure that mobility is improved across the board, both within and outside the transportation sphere.

At OTC, Bolt donated 10 wheelchairs, 10 adjustable frame walkers, and 10 pairs of adjustable crutches to OTC as a way of supporting the disabled community. Founded in 1961, OTC is focused on the rehabilitation of the physically challenged in Ghana and West Africa, mainly children. Catering to over 7,200 patients annually, OTC runs exclusively on donations, hence the timely contribution from Bolt to achieve their purposes.

In addition, Bolt Ghana made a presentation of five laptops to the Research, Business Development, and Innovation Department of the DVLA. These will go a long way towards supporting the infusion of technology into the Ghana transport system and to bring it up to optimal global standards.

This comes off the back of Bolt and the DVLA collaborating to fast-track the renewal of driver’s licences, driver’s licence verification, vehicle verification and all other services related to our operations direct from Bolt’s offices. Bolt and DVLA have also carried out joint studies on the socio-economic impact of e-hailing in Ghana.

Henry Whyte, Senior Operations Manager for Bolt Ghana, threw light on why these donations were important: “For us at Bolt, we’re committed to keeping people on the move. As the leading mobility app in Africa, we keep our fingers on the pulse of anything that has to do with mobility. With these donations, we’re playing our part in removing some of the hindrances to free movement, whether it’s for our physically challenged friends or for our drivers.”

As a good corporate citizen, Bolt has made it a priority to meet needs within the community. In 2023, the company is looking forward to engaging in quarterly CSR activities centred around enhanced and unhindered mobility for citizens.
