Chief builds Sports Complex to develop sports talents in Kwahu

Nkosuohene of Kwahu Nkwatia also Chairman of the Kabaka Foundation, Nana Owiredu Wadie (I) has built and commissioned ultramodern sports complex to develop sports talents on the Kwahu Ridge area.

The first phase of the project made up of tennis and basketball courts have been completed and Commissioned.

The second phase which comprises of AstroTurf football pitch, squash court, and other ancillary sports facilities will be completed by the end of 2023.

Dr. Henry Larbi, Executive Director of Kabaka Foundation a non for Profit organization founded by Nana Owiredu Wadie (I) to spearhead socio-economic interventions in line with the sustainable development goals, told the media that, the project is targeted at unearthing and developing talents in various sporting disciplines among the youth in the area.

“This sports complex we’re all seeing is in line with KABAKA foundation’s community infrastructure development projects. The idea is that we want to provide community infrastructure that can develop talent and also create room for ordinary people to have development, so we thought of having people go into sports and sports is also a good avenue where we can have the youth develop themselves and be productive,” he said.

According to him coaches and trainers will be hired to scout youth including persons with disabilities with talents and interest in various sports disciplines for professional career development.

He is hopeful Kwahu will soon begin to produce great footballers, tennis players and other sportsmen and women for national and international sporting competitions such as the Olympics games and paralympic activities.

He added that, Nana Owiredu Wadie I is committed to partnering stakeholders in sports to use the facility as training camps for acclimatisation due to conducive whether condition on the Kwahu Ridge area.

Speaking to the media at the sidelines of Nana Owiredu Wadie (I) tennis invitational tournament as part of the commissioning of the projects, President of the Ghana Tennis Federation, Mr. Isaac Aboagye – Duah said the new international standard tennis court built by Nana Owiredu Wadie (I) is another giant private investment towards development of the sport in Ghana.

“Tennis is a sport that requires perseverance, skills and determination just as squash. It’s the sports that have produced some of the greatest athletes in the world and it inspires countless individuals to take up their sports. Today we celebrate not just the opening of the court but also the potential it holds to inspire and transform lives,” he stated.

Mr. Duah appealed to Nana Owiredu Wadie (I) is also Board Chairman for the St. Peter’s SHS to renovate the two tennis courts at the St. Peter’s Senior High School in Kwahu Nkwatia to develop talents of students in the sport.

The events were climaxed with commissioning of Dente Water rehabilitation and mechanization project funded by Kabaka Foundation to provide safe water for Nkwatia Clinic and inhabitants around.

Dignitaries present at the inauguration ceremony were, Opanyin Nana Owiredu Wadie, father of Nana Owiredu Wadie I, President and Vice of Ghana Tennis Federation: Isaac Aboagye Duah and Kwame Gjangba, the chairman of Koforidua Sports Club Mr. John Afful, Mr. Mr. Adjei Darko the father of former national tennis star Henry Adjei Darko, Ghana Wheelchair Tennis ,Nana Opoku Amankwah II, Kwahu Nkwatia Kyidomhene and other chiefs and opinions leaders in Kwahu.

The ceremonial tennis tournament was participated by Koforidua Sports Club, Legacy Tennis Club from Accra, 4 Garrison Tennis Club and Tesano Sports Club.
