Epiphany Warriors secures a ticket to the semifinals of the 2023/24 Women’s FA Cup after a 2:1 victory over Premier League side Jonina Ladies at Auntie Aku Astro Turf.
The Pink ladies become the first Division one women’s team to book a spot in the Women’s FA Cup, after an impressive record of beating Anlo Ladies, Blessed Ladies, Sea Lions and Jonina Ladies.
Despite the first half ending in a scoreless stalemate, Epiphany Warriors nearly scored an opener through Matilda Enchill in the 18th minute, but her effort was saved by the host’s goalkeeper.
Epiphany Warriors went ahead and grabbed the opener in the 61st minute through first-half substitute Sonia Opoku.
The hosts extended the game to extra time after a rough challenge from Epiphany Warriors player, with Jonina Ladies forward Eunice Kpeentey converting the spot kick.
Epiphany Warriors FC secured a second half lead in extra time through forward Leticia Adjei, who produced another impressive moment in the match. This goals tallies Epiphany Warriors’ goals to 10 and conceding 2 in the competition.
This makes it the second win over a premier league side, and the third meeting with two wins against Jonina for the GARFA 2022/23 middle league champions.
Coach Tamimu Adams has a good record in the GARFA division 1 league registering 9 wins and a draw with 62 goals and conceding 4 goals.
Epiphany Warriors sits second on the table and will battle it out with Ghana Army Ladies in the semifinals of the 2023/24 Women’s FA Cup.
The winners will be informed of their semifinal fate upon the announcement and eventual holding of the draw date.
