Rudeboy alleges brother’s role in EFCC ordeal, confirms P-Square split

Paul Okoye, widely known as Rudeboy, has made a startling revelation, claiming that his twin brother Peter Okoye, aka Mr P, was behind his recent arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In an exclusive interview with City FM, Lagos, Rudeboy disclosed that Mr P wrote a petition to the anti-graft agency, accusing him of fraudulent dealings.

Rudeboy recounted the distressing experience, stating that despite being cleared of all allegations after a thorough investigation, his twin brother refused to apologize for the false accusations. “This year, I was invited by the EFCC after they received a petition against me from my twin brother. I never thought our beef would get to this extent. I thought it was just music,” Rudeboy said.

He detailed the anxiety he faced during the investigation, as the EFCC scrutinized his account statements and questioned every transaction. “First of all, what entered my mind was, what if I was into fraud? That’s how my brother would have finished me? But I took it. Then they started the investigation. At a point, I was no longer comfortable with the kind of questions they were asking me. When I knew it was serious was when they asked me to get a lawyer and sureties,” he explained.

The investigation concluded with Rudeboy’s exoneration, yet the ordeal left a strain on their relationship. “One month ago, they called me, my twin brother and our elder brother [Jude Okoye], and said, ‘First of all, we have to say that after all investigations, Paul is innocent. Paul is cleared. Everything you accused him of, we’ve done our investigation and he’s innocent.’ Despite the fact that I was proven innocent, my twin brother didn’t apologize for the false accusations.”

Rudeboy also confirmed the disbandment of P-Square, the iconic music duo he formed with Mr P. The group, known for its Afropop hits, first split in 2016 but reunited in 2021. “The plan of our coming back together was going to produce a lot of hit albums. But as it is now, I’m just focusing on Rudeboy. Trust me, it is not everything that I would want to say,” he stated.

P-Square, celebrated for their dynamic performances and chart-topping albums like “Get Squared” and “Game Over,” have been a dominant force in the Nigerian music scene since the 2000s. Their tumultuous relationship and eventual split have left fans with mixed emotions, as the brothers pursue their solo careers.
