Justice Lydia Osei Marfo, a Justice of the Court of Appeal, has welcomed jurors back to duty after a four-month absence, marking a significant milestone in Ghana’s judicial system.
The jurors’ return is particularly timely, as they’ll be tackling the high-profile murder case of Paul Evename, a taxi driver accused of murdering his girlfriend at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).
The jurors’ presence in Court on Wednesday is crucial, as they’ll play a decisive role in determining the fate of Evename.
As “kingmakers” in this case, their verdict will be binding, and potentially life-changing for the accused.

“Today is for closing addresses and summations. I have a warrant to deliver judgments and summations in all cases during this vacation period, so we are now covered under the law.”
EIB Network’s Legal Affairs Correspondent, Murtala Inusah is reporting that the Prosecution is currently addressing the jurors.
The crux of their submission is to point to the jurors that, Prosecution’s case is not based on circumstantial evidence but rather hard evidence of witnesses who witnessed the incident.
He argued that prosecution has proven beyond reasonable doubt while Defence could not raise any doubt on their evidence.
The Defence lawyers will also have their turn after which the Court will sum up the trial for the jury to return their verdict.
