The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi has agreed with the notion that catchy phrases accompanying ballot positions make campaign messages effective.

According to the NDC Executive, the quality of crafting a message around a party’s position on the ballot paper underpins the relevance of balloting ahead of the polls.

“Slogans and catchy phrases have their role in every campaign. When you have a catchy slogan, it is easy for the people to remember and so it enhances the effectiveness of your communication of the subject matter.

“And that is why beyond the issue of how people will be able to locate you on the ballot paper, sometimes the number also matter because of the significance of numbers,” he told Starr FM’s Tutuwaa Danso.

He continued: “You know that Ghanaians are very religious, some are superstitious and numbers have meanings in that context of religion, faith and superstition, however you want to look at it.”

The NDC National Officer made the observation in the lead-up to the balloting exercise at the Electoral Commission’s headquarters on Friday.

Following the exercise, the NDC selected eighth place whilst its main opponent, the ruling New Patriotic Party chose Number 1.

The opposition party’s General Secretary, Fiifi Kwetey who spoke to reporters after the balloting said the selected position was “a symbol of breaking the eight years of decay, deception and death of the soul of Ghana”.
