In a continued effort to champion education in his constituency, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, Member of Parliament for Builsa South, has approved the disbursement of GH₵ 231,200 to support 264 students from his constituency in paying their school fees.
The funds, sourced from his portion of the common fund, are intended to alleviate the financial burden on students pursuing higher education.
In a statement signed by Daniel Akogtu, Deputy Communication Officer for Builsa NDC, he disclosed that the 264 beneficiaries, chosen from a pool of 426 applicants, were selected by Dr. Apaak’s Students’ Support Selection Committee. Out of the selected students, 140 are females, while 124 are males. The allocation reflects Dr. Apaak’s consistent focus on providing equal opportunities for both genders.
In the authorization letter addressed to the Builsa South District Assembly on September 15, 2024, Dr. Apaak highlighted that the funds will support 182 students in various universities and 82 students from nursing and teacher training colleges. Each university student will receive GH₵ 1,000, while the nursing and teacher trainees will be given GH₵ 600 each.
Since its inception in 2017, Dr. Apaak’s student support initiative has disbursed a total of GH₵ 747,000, benefiting 995 students over the years. Although the program could not support all applicants due to funding limitations, the MP encouraged those who did not receive aid this year to reapply in the future, assuring that priority will be given to those who meet the criteria.
Dr. Apaak, who serves as the Deputy Ranking Member on Parliament’s Education Committee and is a key figure in the NDC’s education agenda for the 2024 campaign, remains steadfast in his commitment to education. His contributions extend beyond education, encompassing critical areas such as healthcare, water and sanitation, and the empowerment of youth and women in the Builsa South constituency.
The program continues to be a beacon of hope for many young people in Builsa South, positioning education as a tool for individual and community development.
