The Ghana Police Service has launched an operation to arrest a group of individuals who identify themselves as the “NDC Youth of Obuasi” after a video surfaced online showing them threatening violence during the upcoming 2024 General Elections.
The video, which has gone viral, features the group delivering a strongly worded warning to the Electoral Commission (EC), alleging bias and vowing to declare their own election results if unsatisfied with the official process. They also declared their intention to resist law enforcement efforts to maintain order on election day, December 7.
In the video, one of the individuals stated, “We, the youth of the Ashanti Region NDC, gathered here in Obuasi, are fully prepared for the 2024 elections. Come December 7, whether the Electoral Commission declares it or not, we are confident that the NDC will emerge victorious. Whether you like it or not, people will declare the results in their own homes. Neither the police nor the military can stop us.”
The Police, in a statement, classified the group’s conduct as “offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace,” a violation of section 207 of the Criminal Offenses Act, 1960 (Act 29).
“We wish to state that the behaviour of the group constitutes the offense of offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace contrary to section 207 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
“A Police operation is currently ongoing to have them arrested to face justice”, the statement concluded.
