The Chief of Akyem Muoso, Osabarima Dr. Owusu Beyeeman, has called on politicians to avoid actions that could destabilize the peace of Ghana during this year’s election.

Speaking at a durbar to mark the first anniversary of his installation as Chief of Muoso, he stated that political and traditional power should never come at the cost of national unity and peace.

“Just us we won’t allow chieftaincy disputes to destroy this country, we won’t also allow politicians to destroy Ghana,” said Osabarima Dr. Owusu Beyeeman.

He added “The colonial government usurped powers from us [Traditional rulers] to politicians. We [chiefs] don’t collect taxes it is the politicians who do. We are not included in governance. We rely on the benevolence of others to develop our communities. We won’t allow politics to destroy the country. The country does not belong to politicians”.

He advised citizens to vote peacefully and return home to await results, reminding them, “In elections, you either win or lose. If your party loses, thank God and move on.”

He urged politicians and their supporters to accept election outcomes with grace.

“No politician is custodian of the land even if you are a politician and your great grandfathers sacrificed for our independence does not give you the right to burn the country. My advice to you is that on December 7 go and vote, after voting leave your house to wait for the results. If your party wins or loses just thank God because you know in an election is either you lose or win.”

The Chief also praised the Inspector General of Police for providing assurances of a peaceful electoral process and urged the public to refuse any invitations to engage in violence.

Reflecting on past chieftaincy disputes in Muoso, Osabarima Dr. Beyeeman recounted the chaos that almost destroyed the community.

He emphasized that such conflicts are unnecessary and called on kingmakers to act with integrity and fairness to ensure peace in their communities. “Chieftaincy should be about service,” he said, adding that leaders must accept the decisions of kingmakers for the greater good.

He bemoaned that “Chieftaincy disputes are killing Ghana and communities. Chieftaincy disputes nearly collapsed my town [Muoso]. Not only in Muoso, but throughout the country chieftaincy disputes causing violence. Chieftaincy is service so if you are not nominated by kingmakers just accept it. But now chieftaincy has become bloody so my appeal to kingmakers is to be sincere and fair so there is peace always”.

Commending his leadership, Professor Kwame Gyan, a senior lawyer and law lecturer at the University of Ghana School of Law, praised Osabarima Dr. Owusu Beyeeman for fostering peace and development in Akyem Muoso within just one year of his reign.

Through the intervention of the Chief, the performance of students in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) has leaped from about 30% to 79%. A modern police station has also been established, water safe drinking water provided among many other projects.

Lawyer Kwame Gyan urged the community to continue supporting the chief to sustain the progress achieved.
