The Member of Parliament for Anyaa Sowutuom, Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi, has expressed concerns about the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) current state, admitting they’ve lost their way
According to Dr. Kissi, the NPP’s significant debt accumulation, despite campaigning against it, is a clear indication of the party’s deviation from its core principles.
Speaking on GHOne TV with Lily Mohammed, Dr. Kissi acknowledged Akufo-Addo’s notable infrastructure achievements but emphasized that Ghanaians expected more from the government.
Dr. Kissi also highlighted some of the challenges associated with the government’s infrastructure projects, citing the sea defence programmes as an example.
To reclaim its lost glory, Dr. Kissi advocated for the NPP to return to its traditional roots, led by knowledgeable individuals rather than “hero worshippers” driven by finances.
“Never in the history of Ghana has members of parliament of governing party ‘revolted’ against their executives for some good reasons. We rose into power with damming debt but yet we took on too much debt”, he disclosed.
“When it comes to infrastructure, you cannot discount Akufo-Addo, he has put a lot of iron , mortar and brick on the ground, I think the Ghanaian voters are much more sophisticated than infrastructure.”
“I think we need to return what NPP was, the Busia type of tradition, the JB Danquah type of tradition. Knowledgeable men should lead the party, it became as if we rather then wanted the non knowledgeable people who were ‘hero worshippers’ to lead and have finances rather than people who could make assessment and arrive at certain determination and advice government on a path that was acceptable and perceived as good”, he said.
