Parliament has officially begun the registration process for Members of Parliament-elect for the upcoming 9th Parliament of the 4th Republic, today [Wednesday, December 25, 2024].

The registration will commence with an online phase, followed by an in-person exercise scheduled from January 2 to January 6, 2025.

In a statement released by Camillo Pwamang, the Deputy Coordinator of the Dissolution/Inauguration Committee and Deputy Clerk to Parliament, targeted messages will be sent to the elected MPs via WhatsApp or email, inviting them for the registration process.

MPs-elect are encouraged to reach out for clarifications or assistance by contacting the designated registration officers.

This registration process is a key step in preparing for the official swearing-in of the new Parliament.

Meanwhile, the election of the Speaker will be held at 11:00 PM on Monday, January 6, 2025, with MPs-elect expected to be seated by 9:00 PM.

The swearing-in ceremony will follow at midnight, marking the official start of the new Parliament.

Additionally, the swearing-in of the President-elect and Vice President-elect is set for Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at Independence Square in Accra.

The ceremony will begin at 10:00 AM, with MPs-elect expected to be seated by 9:00 AM. Transport will be provided from Parliament House to Independence Square, departing at 8:00 AM.

Parliament urges all elected Members to be punctual for these important events.

“The Parliament of Ghana wishes to inform all Members elected to the 9th Parliament of the 4th Republic, that registration will commence on Wednesday, 25th December 2024. The exercise will start with online registration.”

“Targeted messaged inviting members will be sent to members elect via WhatsApp or emails. Physical registration will start on Thursday 2nd January, 2025 and end on 6th January 2025.”
