Former Minerals Commissioner and Chairman of the Mining Committee for John Mahama’s campaign, Dr. Anthony Aubbyn, has pledged that the incoming John Mahama administration will strictly enforce laws against illegal mining on water bodies.
During a discussion on mining in Ghana on GHOne TV with Joshua Kojo Mensah, Dr. Aubbyn emphasized the NDC’s commitment to preventing illegal mining on water bodies.
He explained, “We were trying to stop mining on water bodies completely, because the law doesn’t allow that to happen; the law doesn’t allow mining on water bodies.”
He asserted that the soon-to-be-inaugurated John Mahama administration would ensure complete enforcement of existing laws.
“John Mahama is going to enforce that law 100%. He has also put together a team to come up with a comprehensive approach which couldn’t see the light of day; he has learned. In 2020, he improved upon the approach after further consultation with stakeholders and went to the election and lost,” he said.
