A Pragmatic Approach to Traffic Decongestion
Dadson’s plan takes a pragmatic approach to addressing the traffic congestion in Kumasi’s central business district. His strategy focuses on three key areas:
- Dedicated Loading and Off-Loading Hours: To reduce congestion, trucks above four tonnes will not be allowed to enter the central business district during peak hours (6 am – 6 pm, Monday – Saturday). Instead, a loading park will be created at the periphery of the district, where goods can be transferred to smaller trucks for distribution.
- Construction of Modern High-Level Car Parks: The KMA will partner with property owners to convert existing buildings into high-level, electronically managed car parks. This will provide business owners and patrons with a convenient and secure parking option, reducing the need for on-street parking and alleviating congestion.
- Introduction of Shuttle Transport Services: Part of the loading parks will be used to operate shuttle transport services, allowing people to park and ride, rather than navigating congested streets.

- Introduction of electronic paid on-street parking: Patrons and people entering the central business district to transact business in the comfort of driving their cars will also have the opportunity to park on-street made parking space but will have to pay electronically with Metropolitan Card or other related cards only. The charges of this parking will be a bit higher than other parking charges.
- Conversion of some existing streets into one way traffic:
Technically some streets within the central business district will be converted into one way traffic carriage to assist in effective distribution of traffic and also help in reducing the traffic decongestion. This will increase the on-street parking space, and ensure safety and mobility.
