As Kumasi continues to grow and develop, one of the major challenges facing the city is traffic congestion in the central business district. PV Jantuah Boateng Dadson, a seasoned leader and contender for the Chief Executive position of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), has outlined a comprehensive plan to tackle this issue as part of his strategic program, “Action for Transformation of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly.”

The Current State of Traffic in Kumasi’s Central Business District

The central business district of Kumasi is plagued by vehicular and pedestrian traffic, causing frustration for business owners, patrons, and residents alike. Over the years, the KMA has missed opportunities to address this issue by allowing property developers to erect high-rise structures without corresponding investments in road infrastructure and parking facilities.

A Pragmatic Approach to Traffic Decongestion

Dadson’s plan takes a pragmatic approach to addressing the traffic congestion in Kumasi’s central business district. His strategy focuses on three key areas:

  • Dedicated Loading and Off-Loading Hours: To reduce congestion, trucks above four tonnes will not be allowed to enter the central business district during peak hours (6 am – 6 pm, Monday – Saturday). Instead, a loading park will be created at the periphery of the district, where goods can be transferred to smaller trucks for distribution.
  • Construction of Modern High-Level Car Parks: The KMA will partner with property owners to convert existing buildings into high-level, electronically managed car parks. This will provide business owners and patrons with a convenient and secure parking option, reducing the need for on-street parking and alleviating congestion.
  • Introduction of Shuttle Transport Services: Part of the loading parks will be used to operate shuttle transport services, allowing people to park and ride, rather than navigating congested streets.
  • service to the business district to do their shopping and returned with same.

This particular service will reduce traffic congestion drastically and serve as a

source of income for the assembly through fare charged.

  • Introduction of electronic paid on-street parking: Patrons and people entering the central business district to transact business in the comfort of driving their cars will also have the opportunity to park on-street made parking space but will have to pay electronically with Metropolitan Card or other related cards only. The charges of this parking will be a bit higher than other parking charges.
  • Conversion of some existing streets into one way traffic:

Technically some streets within the central business district will be converted into one way traffic carriage to assist in effective distribution of traffic and also help in reducing the traffic decongestion. This will increase the on-street parking space, and ensure safety and mobility.

A Brighter Future for Kumasi

Dadson’s vision for traffic decongestion in Kumasi’s central business district is a crucial step towards creating a more livable, sustainable, and economically vibrant city. By addressing the root causes of traffic congestion, his plan has the potential to improve air quality, reduce travel times, and enhance the overall quality of life for residents and visitors alike. As Kumasi continues to grow and develop, it is essential that we prioritize innovative solutions like Dadson’s to ensure a brighter future for all.

PV Jantuah Boateng Dadson’s comprehensive policy plan for Kumasi’s transformation is a resounding testament to his unwavering commitment to the city’s growth and development. With his vast experience in governance, politics, and public administration, he possesses the requisite expertise to steer Kumasi towards unprecedented prosperity.

As a visionary leader, PV Jantuah has consistently demonstrated his ability to think outside the box, harnessing innovative solutions to tackle complex challenges. His exceptional communication skills, coupled with his passion for public service, make him an exemplary candidate for the position of Mayor of Kumasi.

He demonstrated same when he was appointed a Presidential Staffer and Director of Operations of the innovative Youth Enterprise Support (YES) program established in the first term of H.E. President John Dramani Mahama. His outfit courted young startups and youth with entrepreneurial ideas; trained them in business operations and set them up with capital and supervision to build jobs that continue to provide employment for many young Ghanaians.

Should President John Mahama appoint PV Jantuah Boateng Dadson as KMA boss, it would be a masterstroke, given his impressive credentials and transformative vision for Kumasi. With PV Jantuah at the helm, Kumasi is poised to experience a renaissance, characterized by unprecedented growth, development, and prosperity.
