The Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson, has announced that the region is one of the best places for investment in Ghana.
He highlighted the region’s rich natural resources, strategic location, and skilled workforce as key advantages that make it an ideal destination for both local and foreign investors.
Speaking at a meeting with the Member of Parliament (MP) for Essikado-Ketan, Dr. Grace Ayensu Danquah, on Monday, February 24, 2025, the Minister urged investors to take advantage of the many opportunities available in the region. He emphasized that private sector investment is crucial in boosting development and complementing the government’s efforts to drive economic growth.
“The reality is that we cannot rely solely on central government for everything,” he said. “We need to encourage others who are equally passionate about investment and development to work with us.”
Hon. Nelson, who previously served as the Regional Secretary for three terms, reassured stakeholders that he understands the challenges facing the region and is committed to addressing them.
“My priority as Regional Minister is to drive development through investment. I know the issues firsthand, and I am determined to make a difference,” he stated.
One of his immediate concerns is the deteriorating state of the Western Regional Coordinating Council (WRCC), which has suffered structural damage and general neglect. He expressed his disappointment over its poor condition and promised to oversee its renovation.
“It is disheartening to see our regional administration in this state. This should not be the case,” he lamented.
Dr. Grace Ayensu Danquah, on her part, assured the Minister of her commitment to work closely with him to develop Essikado-Ketan, which hosts the WRCC. She emphasized the need for investment in her constituency to address issues of underdevelopment and rising unemployment.
“I am dedicated to attracting investors to our region, especially to my constituency. We need to bridge the infrastructure gap and create more opportunities for our people,” she said.
Both leaders agreed to collaborate to advance the development agenda of the Western Region, ensuring that investment translates into real growth and improvement in the lives of residents.
