The Minister of Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has assured residents of the Kokokuom community in the Ashanti Region that the government is taking immediate action to repair the damaged community road bridge, which has been declared unfit for traffic.
During a working visit to assess the situation, the roads Minister acknowledged the challenges faced by the community due to the deteriorating condition of the bridge.
He attributed the damage to frequent use by heavy-duty vehicles, particularly trucks transporting mining equipment, which have caused vibrations and structural weaknesses over time.
“The Regional Security Council has officially declared that the bridge is no longer safe for use. We have reviewed the situation, and our priority now is to ensure that repairs are carried out promptly and with the highest level of quality,” the minister stated.
He further disclosed that a contractor has been assigned to the project, and work is expected to commence by Friday 7th March 2025 .
He assured the public that efforts would be made to complete the repairs as quickly as possible.
“We understand the inconvenience this situation has caused the people of Kokokuom and the surrounding areas. The government is committed to mobilizing resources efficiently so that everyone benefits from the best possible infrastructure,” he added.
The minister also expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama and other stakeholders for their support in addressing the community’s concerns.
He urged the contractors to adhere to high-quality standards to ensure the durability and safety of the reconstructed bridge.
Residents of Kokokuom have welcomed the government’s intervention, hoping that the project will restore safe transportation and improve economic activities in the area.
