Man, 35, accused of selling Ahmed Suale’s pictures to Ken Agyapong remanded

A 35-year-old businessman, Daniel Owusu Koranteng, has been remanded in lawful custody until April 1, 2025, by the District Court in Madina over the murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale.

Owusu Koranteng is alleged to have sold Suale’s photographs to Kennedy Agyapong, which led to his death.

He was arrested on March 15, 2025, six years after the incident.

In court on Wednesday, March 19, 2925, Police Prosecutor Chief Inspector Nana Afuabamfoa Bamfo informed the court that investigations were ongoing and requested the accused be remanded.

The accused she said admitted to selling Suale’s photographs to Mr. Agyapong, but Defense Counsel Kofi Essel argued for bail, stating that his client had persons of sufficient means to stand as sureties.

The Magistrate, Her Worship Susanna Nyarkotey, questioned why someone alleged to have sold photographs would be held for murder.

The prosecutor responded that the charge sheet could be amended upon the conclusion of the investigation.

He is on a provisional charge of murder and his plea was not taken.

Brief facts

According to the brief facts presented by Chief Inspector Bamfo, the Petitioner Ibrahim Kamiru Tahidu is a relative of the deceased, Ahmed Hussein Suale.

While the accused, Daniel Owusu Koranteng alias Amakye is the managing director of ISPY Company.

Chief Inspt. Bamfo said, both Ahmed Suale and the accused were employees of Tiger Eye Company, led by Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

The Prosecutor at that, the accused had multiple interactions with the deceased (Ahmed Suale) and his family before his death.

It was her case that, “tensions escalated in June 2018 when Hon. Kennedy Agyapong broadcasted images of Ahmed Suale on Net TV, calling for retribution against the investigative journalist.”

Chief Inspt. Bamfo said, the deceased Ahmed Suale later identified the accused as the person who provided Hon. Agyapong with his photographs.

She said, on January 16, 2019, following the publication of deceased’s images, he (Ahmed Suale) was shot and killed in Madina.

She explained that, call records placed the accused in Madina near Suale’s residence before and at the time of the murder.

The Prosecutor told the Court that, further analysis showed that later that same day, “the accused traveled from Madina to his residence in Amasaman late in the evening at about 2315 hours, after the murder.”

She said, “during the investigation, the accused declined multiple police invitations and later fled to the United Kingdom somewhere in August 2019.”

Chief Inspt. Bamfo said, the Accused later returned to Ghana and intelligence led to his arrest in Amasaman on March 15, 2025.

She said, the accused admitted knowing the deceased, visiting Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, and having taken photographs with the deceased but denied selling the photographs to anyone.

The Prosecutor said Police investigation is ongoing to identify other suspects in the case.
