Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Apaak, has reiterated the need to decentralize Ghana’s education governance structure.
This follows President John Mahama’s endorsement of decentralizing education management in Ghana to improve productivity and address local challenges in the sector.
Speaking at the Jubilee House on Friday in a brief ceremony to receive the final report of the National Education Forum, the president said a decentralized education regime will help locals connect with education in their communities.
“Local governments, district education offices, school boards and community leaders must be given greater authority, flexibility and accountability in managing our schools. Centralized decision-making has led to delays, inefficiencies and disconnection from the local realities.
“Decentralization will not only improve service delivery but also restore a sense of ownership and urgency at the grassroot level,” President Mahama stated.
Commenting on the move in a Facebook post, the Builsa South lawmaker added that the move will ensure timely and efficient education service delivery.
“H.E John Dramani Mahama emphasized a key recommendation made by Ghanaians, on June 5th 2025, during his speech on the occasion of receiving the final report of the National Education Forum.
“Indeed, a decentralized education governance structure not only makes sense but will ensure timely and efficient education service delivery,” Dr. Apaak reiterated.
