The family of former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta has accused the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) of abusing its administrative powers in its handling of ongoing investigations involving Mr. Ofori-Atta.

In a press release dated June 9, 2025, the family demanded the withdrawal of the INTERPOL Red Notice issued against him and called out the OSP for what they described as deliberate manipulation, disregard for due process, and violations of his human rights.

According to the statement, the family has submitted applications to both the National Central Bureau and the Commission for the Control of INTERPOL’s Files, seeking the deletion of the Red Notice. They alleged that the OSP manipulated court processes to obtain an arrest warrant on February 11, 2025 without a properly filed affidavit, and has since failed to state any formal charges beyond “Using Public Office for Private Profit.”

The family further stated that Mr. Ofori-Atta is not evading justice, as claimed by the OSP, but rather cooperating while undergoing medical treatment abroad. They cited his diagnosed cancer, with a scheduled surgery set for 13th June 2025 at the Mayo Clinic in the United States. They also highlighted that Mr. Ofori-Atta had offered to provide a video-recorded interview and written responses, but the OSP declined, insisting on in-person attendance.

“Fairness and reasonableness in the exercise of administrative power required that these matters be taken into consideration,” the family wrote, questioning the OSP’s refusal to accommodate a virtual interview given Mr. Ofori-Atta’s medical condition.

The statement also claimed that the reposting of Mr. Ofori-Atta’s wanted poster on June 2, 2025, was a “premeditated theatrical stunt” intended to publicly humiliate him despite ongoing court proceedings. The family expressed concern that the OSP deliberately withheld Mr. Ofori-Atta’s medical records from INTERPOL, potentially violating the agency’s own regulations and human rights protocols.

Describing the OSP’s conduct as a “vendetta” and “political persecution,” the family accused the office of: Suppression of evidence, disregard for judicial proceedings, breach of administrative justice, violation of human rights, and refusal to comply with due process.

They insisted that Mr. Ofori-Atta has consistently responded transparently to all past investigations and continues to uphold a commitment to legal accountability.

“He stood firm, defended his actions, and was acquitted in full view of our entire nation,” the statement said, referencing past proceedings before CHRAJ, Parliament, and the ECOWAS Court of Justice.

The family reiterated that after Mr. Ofori-Atta’s upcoming surgery and recovery, he will return to Ghana to meet with the OSP in person. They expressed confidence that justice would prevail and “his rights will be restored.”
