All Television subscriptions, including DSTv and Satellite have been banned at the Presidency in a bid to reinforce fiscal discipline and cut down on non-essential government expenditure.
According to the Minister of State for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, President John Mahama has replaced all the subscriptions with local channels only at the Jubilee House.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu, interview on JoyNews on Tuesday, June 10 explained forms part of the President’s efforts to eliminate wasteful spending across all public institutions.
He explained that all televisions at the seat of government now operate solely on local free-to-air channels.
Kwakye Ofosu said, “I can reveal to you that if you come to this house, there’s no office in this house that is allowed to subscribe to DSTV or any satellite television. You would say that that is a trivial matter, but he has done that. Because when you computed the cost, it was significant money.”

The minister added that the directive will soon be extended to all government agencies as part of a broader cost-saving strategy aimed at ensuring taxpayer money is used more responsibly.
“You can turn on the television that you see here, you will find that I’m only limited to local television stations. It is something that will be extended to all government agencies to ensure that we don’t waste the taxpayers’ money.”
