President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his government’s commitment to working closely with traditional leaders as vital partners in national development and governance.

He made this during a courtesy call on the Overlord of Dagbon, His Royal Majesty Yaa Naa Abubakari Mahama II, at the Jubilee House on Friday, June 13, 2025.

President Mahama emphasized that his administration recognizes the indispensable role of traditional authorities in promoting peace, unity, and grassroots development.

He assured traditional leaders and the people of the region that his government would continue to prioritize youth development as a catalyst for national progress.

Highlighting key initiatives, President Mahama said, “Beyond infrastructure, we are also restoring the dignity and capacity of the traditional Chieftaincy Institution. The Traditional Leadership Support Fund, created under the 2025 budget, will finance the preservation of royal archives, rehabilitation of palaces, and logistical support for traditional areas, including the Dagbon Traditional Council. We recognize that tradition is complementary to development.”

He added, “Tradition is foundational, this government will not sideline traditional rulers. We will partner with you, we will listen to your wise counsel. We will honor your place in the national architecture of governance.”

President Mahama also commended Yaa Naa Abubakari Mahama II for his exemplary leadership, particularly in promoting peace across the Northern Region and beyond.

“Your Majesty, let me also acknowledge your wise leadership in promoting peace beyond the boundaries of Dagbon. Your quiet interventions in disputes across Mamprusi, Gonja, and the Eastern corridor have helped reduce tensions and avoid escalation, and Ghana is grateful to you.”
