The Director of Presidential Initiatives in Agriculture and Agribusiness (PIAA), Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor, has begun engaging farmers across selected regions as part of the implementation of the DOBIDI Initiative, a government-led private sector driven outgrower programme aimed at supporting smallholder farmers with critical farming inputs to boost production and improve livelihoods.
During a community engagement session in the North East Region, Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor, Director of PIAA, explained that the initiative is focused on removing barriers to production by supplying farmers with the inputs they need including seeds, fertilizer, tools, and technical training.
“The goal of the DOBIDI Initiative is simple, “give farmers what they need to farm,” Dr. Otokunor said. “We are making sure that inputs reach the right hands at the right time to improve yields, ensure food security, and create jobs.”
The interactive session provided a platform for farmers to express their challenges and expectations. Many of them highlighted the high cost and unavailability of inputs as a major constraint to farming.
Dr. Otokunor assured the farmers that the government is committed to supporting them beyond input supply, with access to markets, extension services, and long-term policy support. The engagements are expected to continue across other farming communities in the coming weeks.
