The Esports Association Ghana (EAG) has announced the official launch of the Ghana Esports League (GEL), a landmark national competition designed to develop, rank, and reward elite gamers across the country.
Billed as Ghana’s first structured national esports league, GEL is set to kick off with a Pre-Season Tournament in August 2025, debuting popular titles EA SPORTS FC25 and eFootball 25.
President of Esports Association Ghana, Mr. Kwesi Hayford, described the initiative as a turning point for the country’s gaming community.
“The Ghana Esports League marks a new era for competitive gaming in Ghana. This league isn’t just about gaming; it’s about providing structure, recognition, and professional pathways for our players, coaches, content creators, and industry stakeholders,” he said. “We are building an ecosystem that can thrive locally and compete globally.”
The Pre-Season will feature top esports teams from across Ghana in both online and offline matchups, with national rankings, media features, and league seeding at stake.
Celebrated Ghanaian esports icon Wondhakid hailed the GEL as a long-awaited breakthrough:
“This is what we’ve been waiting for. The Ghana Esports League is a game-changer. As a player, I’ve seen the hunger and talent in this country—we just needed the right platform. GEL is going to push us to new heights and show the world what Ghanaian gamers are made of.”
The league is being developed in partnership with regional and industry stakeholders, and is open to corporate sponsorship, media collaboration, and technical support from institutions committed to growing Ghana’s esports and digital innovation sectors.
