The National Youth Authority (NYA) will on August 16 lead a nationwide Health Walk Against Substance Abuse under the campaign banner “Red Means Stop.” This forms part of the activities outlined for the 2025 National Youth Festival aimed at tackling pressing youth challenges across the country.
Announcing the initiative at the launch of the festival on Friday, July 25, the Chief Executive Officer of the NYA, Osman Ayariga emphasized the urgent need to raise public awareness about the dangers of substance abuse, particularly among Ghana’s young population.
“This health walk is not just a symbolic gesture, it is a national call to action,” the CEO stated. “We must work together to protect the health and future of our youth.”

The walk will mobilize young people, community leaders, and stakeholders across all 16 regions of Ghana in a unified show of support for drug prevention efforts. The initiative is one of several under this year’s festival theme, “Igniting Potential; Inspiring Change,” which seeks to inspire youth-driven solutions to national development issues.
In addition to substance abuse awareness, the NYA has also outlined other thematic concerns to be addressed during the festival, including mental health, climate action, and social inclusion.
