First Deputy Majority Whip, Comfort Doyoe, has called for urgent investment in a new presidential jet, stressing that Ghana’s current fleet of aircraft is no longer reliable.
According to her, the state of the existing presidential jets and helicopters raises serious concerns that cannot be ignored.
“Let’s be honest with ourselves,” she said. “Former Defence Minister, Dr. Omane Boamah, clearly stated that all the presidential jets, planes, helicopters, and choppers were experiencing issues and are currently under assessment. Then Mr. Dominic Nitiwul came out saying everything is in good condition, but the government simply chooses not to use them.”
Doyoe argued that the matter should be treated as a national concern rather than reduced to political banter.
“We cannot keep politicizing everything. The reality is this: our presidential aircraft fleet is not in the best shape. Let’s face the facts and stop turning such serious national matters into political footballs,” she emphasized.
The Deputy Majority Whip further urged government to consider purchasing a new, standard presidential aircraft rather than opting for secondhand alternatives.
“If we truly mean business, then we must invest in a new presidential jet, not a used one. Certain tools and equipment are essential for the proper functioning of any government, and this is one of them. A functioning, reliable presidential aircraft is not a luxury; it’s a necessity for a sovereign state. Let’s put the politics aside and do what’s right for the country.”
She concluded that the acquisition of a dependable presidential jet is not a matter of luxury but of necessity.
