The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has pledged an uncompromising campaign against illegal miners and their financiers, whom the agency has branded as “environmental terrorists.”
Colonel Dominic Buah, Director of Operations at NAIMOS, issued the warning during a high-level dialogue on illegal mining with President John Dramani Mahama and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) at the presidency.
He stressed that both local and foreign perpetrators will be treated as enemies of the state in the fight to protect Ghana’s land and water bodies, which have suffered extensive environmental damage.
“Going forward and will be ruthless with them. Because they are, environmental terrorists. They are terrorists and must be treated as such. We have only one Ghana. We need to do everything possible to protect it.
His Excellency, Mr. President. With your permission, I would like to send this warning to illegal miners. They are assigned financiers that, they are the first or prime enemies of the state. And they will be dealt with as, such. There will be no room for them to escape. NAIMOS will smoke them out very soon. And be assured that very soon our, waters will turn blue, and our forest will turn green,” he stated.
Colonel Buah also revealed that over 400 troops have already been trained and deployed to sensitive areas, with more teams on the way.
He assured the public that NAIMOS is firmly on the ground and that illegal mining activities will soon be eradicated.
“We have already trained over 400 troops, who are the first batch deployed or under deployment to sensitive areas, who continue to deploy more. So that we will all go to bed knowing that NAIMOS is firmly on the ground and illegal mining will be a thing of the past. So all, illegal miners, galamseyers, their financiers and assigns, beware, NAIMOS is closer to your basis, and there will be no hiding place for you,” Colonel Buah added.
