The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has confirmed that the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service have commenced the operationalisation of three Agenda 111 hospitals in the region.
These hospitals, the Minister told the Local Government and Rural Development Committee of Parliament, on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, are part of five hospitals, which were about 95% complete at the end of 2024.
The lack of staff and hospital beds at these facilities, he added, made it cumbersome for these hospitals to begin operations despite being commissioned by former President, Nana Akuffo-Addo.
“With the intervention of the Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, we’ve been able to operationalise three out of the five that were near completion, i.e. Twedie, Suame, which is within your constituency, and then Drobonso. Two additional ones are near completion,” Accra-based Citi FM which first reported the news quotes the Minister as saying.
He added, “Once we’re able to get Oforikrom done, we should be able to operationalise that one and make sure it is open for the youth. So, we have not abandoned the projects as the NPP left for us. We are taking very good care of them, and we make sure that once they are commissioned or started with the taxpayers’ money, to open it for the use of the good people of Ghana.”
Dr Amoakohene also provided updates on several other health facilities currently at various stages of construction across the region.
