The Koforidua Circuit Court “B” has sentenced ex-Corporal Emmanuel Nyame, a dismissed police officer, to 12 years’ imprisonment for defiling a 13-year-old girl who was living with his fiancée.
According to the facts by prosecution, Regional State Attorney Emily Addo-Kyereh, on April 11, 2019, while fiancee’ of the convict was at a funeral, he took the victim into his car under the pretext of running an errand with him.
He drove the victim to a drinking spot called Timberland in Koforidua, where he asked her to help a lady cook.
From there, Nyame continued with the victim to a funeral ground and later to his room at Nsukwao Police Barracks near Ghateco, where he asked the victim to fold some washed clothes.
He then left and returned to provide the victim lines of beads of different colors , put around her waist, claiming they were given to him by his grandmother.
Nyame then forcibly had sexual intercourse with the victim despite her resistance, and warned her not to disclose to anyone, else she will die.
The victim later informed her Aunt’s daughter which eventually, her father was informed.
The victim’s father reported the incident to the police, and a medical examination confirmed the sexual assault.

Nyame denied the offense in his investigation cautioned statement, but medical report and further investigations found him culpable and was charged with defilement.
He however jumped bail on August 13, 2019. Investigations revealed Emmanuel Nyame left Ghana to Dubai through Togo.
He was declared wanted after a bench warrant was issued for his arrest.
On June 21, 2024, he was arrested at Kotoka International Airport upon his return from Dubai by Immigration Service officials and handed over to the police.
Defence Counsel, Francis Xavier Sosu, subsequently applied for a bail for the convict insisting he was a first time offender, but was refused by the court.
