OSP appears unserious about Ken Ofori-Atta’s extradition — Vitus Azeem

Anti-corruption advocate Vitus Azeem has accused the Office of the Special Prosecutor of showing a lack of seriousness in handling the extradition case of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

Anti-corruption campaigner Vitus Azeem has criticised the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) for what he describes as a lack of seriousness and urgency in handling the extradition of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, who is under investigation for alleged corruption-related offences.

His comments follow revelations by Deputy Attorney General Dr. Justice Srem Sai that the OSP had yet to release the case docket to facilitate the extradition process despite multiple formal requests.

The OSP, however, insists that the delay stems from ongoing compilation of the docket after new evidence was obtained during a June 10 search and seizure operation at the offices of Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML).

Speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey on Tuesday, October 21, Mr. Azeem said the OSP’s handling of the matter raises serious questions about commitment and coordination.

Mr. Azeem described the situation as “ridiculous,” arguing that the OSP appeared disorganised from the start of the process.

“The Office of the Attorney General issued a wanted notice. I saw back around May or June. They didn’t have, they hadn’t done any investigations that decided whether to do that,” he said.

“They didn’t have that information, enough information, and they had already issued the wanted notice on the guy and then proceeded to inform Ghanaians that they had initiated the process to bring him back to the country,” he stated.

He further suggested that the public only received an update on the matter after the Deputy Attorney General publicly raised concerns.

“If the Deputy Attorney General hadn’t come out with these complaints, they wouldn’t have come out to tell us that they would submit a docket by the end of the week. They [OSP] haven’t been swift, and they have behaved like they are not actually serious about the investigation,” Azeem lamented.
