In a surprising development, the late Richard Kwame Owusu Kwarteng, a former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Youth Organizer for the Subin Constituency, has posthumously appeared on a public list endorsing Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for the party’s 2028 presidential nomination.
Mr. Owusu Kwarteng, who passed away in January 2025, was a well-known youth leader in the Ashanti Region.
His funeral took place on January 26 at Faith Salvation Church in Jachie, where he was laid to rest with full final rites.
Despite his passing, his name and active phone number appeared on a recently circulated endorsement list supporting Dr. Bawumia, drawing widespread attention and sparking conversations about the authenticity of the list.
The endorsement was unveiled during a press conference in Kumasi on October 28, 2025, where 62 incumbent and 34 former NPP Youth Organizers from the Ashanti Region publicly declared their support for Dr. Bawumia.
The group also rejected the presidential aspirations of former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, citing concerns over his suitability and potential threat to party unity.
In their statement, the youth organizers praised Dr. Bawumia’s leadership qualities, describing him as a symbol of integrity, humility, competence, and inclusiveness.
They said, “Dr. Bawumia exemplifies leadership of peace, intellect, and charisma. We firmly believe he is the best candidate to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections and beyond.”
While the inclusion of the late Mr. Owusu Kwarteng’s name has raised eyebrows, the organizers’ central message remains clear: they are united in support of Dr. Bawumia and confident in his ability to guide both the party and the country toward continued progress.
