Heath Goldfields Ltd. has announced that three illegal miners have died after infiltrating an inactive underground section of the company’s Prestea concession.
According to an official statement, the individuals gained access to the restricted area through unauthorised routes, where they were subsequently trapped. “Preliminary reports indicate that these individuals used unauthorised routes to access a restricted area of the Mine, leading to the tragic loss of 3 lives,” the company said.
Heath Goldfields extended condolences to affected families and the entire Prestea community, noting that “every loss of life, regardless of circumstance, is painful and we stand with the affected families in grief and sympathy.”
The company said it is fully cooperating with the Ghana Police Service, the Minerals Commission, and the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) as investigations and recovery efforts continue. Management commended the agencies for their professionalism and swift response.
Heath Goldfields emphasised its commitment to strict safety standards and responsible mining practices, adding that enhanced security and safety protocols remain in place across all its concessions.
The company further assured traditional authorities, regulators, partners, and community members of its dedication to safeguarding livelihoods and strengthening community engagement.
“Our community relations team is engaging local leaders to provide support to affected families and keep the community informed,” the statement added.
The incident remains under investigation.
