GUBA Enterprise has strengthened its impact across the African diaspora through a strategic investment and creative arts initiative, culminating in a million-dollar movie production set to shoot in Barbados.

The project stems from a three-day GUBA event that combined trade, investment, and cultural exchange.

Speaking on Starr Chat with Bola Ray on Thursday, 11 December 2025, CEO Dentaa Amoateng explained that this year’s event was deliberately designed to move beyond awards and recognition into actionable economic opportunities.

“For the first time, we decided to do a trading investment conference,” she said. “Fine, the GUBA Award is great, fine investing in people is great, but we wanted to look at investable opportunities, one on the island and two on the continent.”

The conference, inaugurated by the Deputy Prime Minister of Barbados, featured high-profile speakers including civil rights attorney Ben Crump, Tony Gentle, and Rita Lewis, Chair of EXIM Bank US. The first day concentrated on investment intelligence and Africa-Caribbean business partnerships.

Evenings were dedicated to creative arts diplomacy, highlighted by a film premiere starring Nollywood icon Shola Sobowale, known for ‘King of Boys’.

Dentaa emphasized that the showcase was a strategic demonstration of African storytelling and industry capability.

“Just showing them our creativity, you know, the films that we do and through that, now they are going to be shooting a movie in Barbados, over a 1 million budget,” she said. “Yeah, from the GUBA Awards.”

The initiative underscores GUBA’s commitment to blending culture, commerce, and creative innovation, opening new investment pathways for African and Caribbean collaboration.
