The NDC Majority Caucus in Parliament has called on the party’s leadership to immediately annul the Ayawaso East parliamentary primaries following allegations of vote buying and inducement.
The call comes after reports emerged during and after the primaries suggesting that the eventual winner, Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, shared items including television sets, motorbikes and other goods in the constituency as part of efforts to influence delegates.
In a statement on Sunday, February 8, 2026, and signed by Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga, the caucus condemned the alleged conduct, describing it as inconsistent with the party’s broader political reform agenda.
“The Caucus wishes to strongly condemn these developments against the background of the agenda to reset the politics of this country,” it added.
After what it described as extensive deliberations, the Majority Caucus said it has resolved to formally petition the NDC Functional Executive Committee to take immediate action.
“That the primary of the NDC organised in the Ayawaso East Constituency be annulled immediately,” the statement demanded.
It further called for sanctions against any aspirant found to have engaged in the alleged misconduct.
“That any candidate who participated in the said primary and has been established to have engaged in this unethical conduct be banned from participating in the subsequent primary after annulment of the election,” it said.
The caucus said its position is aimed at protecting public confidence in internal party elections and strengthening integrity in Ghana’s political process.
