The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has appointed former Member of Parliament, Inusah Fuseini to replace Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga on the committee investigating alleged vote buying in the Ayawaso East parliamentary primaries.
According to a social media post by the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, Ayariga stepped down after the NDC Majority Caucus in Parliament called for the cancellation of the primary, making his continued role on the committee “untenable.”
“Hon Ayariga had to step down because his position on the Committee became untenable following the declared position of the majority caucus,” the post stated.
However, the subject of the allegations, NDC parliamentary candidate Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, has firmly rejected the claims, stating that he did not engage in any vote buying or electoral malpractice and is ready to cooperate fully with the investigation.
The three-member committee, initially chaired by Kofi Totobi Quakyi alongside Mahama Ayariga and lawyer Emefa Fugah, continues its work with Fuseini now part of the team.
“The party remains committed to upholding the highest integrity [in] its internal electoral process,” Kwetey added.
Separately, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) is conducting an independent investigation into the alleged vote buying during the Ayawaso East primaries.
