Holy Child School is set to mark its 80th anniversary with a series of transformative celebrations, highlighted by the commissioning of a state-of-the-art 20,000-gallon solar-powered water system. The project, spearheaded by the school’s 2001 Year Group, the Sapphires, will be officially handed over on March 5, 2026, coinciding with the school’s Founder’s Day.

Returning to Cape Coast after 25 years for their silver jubilee homecoming, the 2001 Sapphires are delivering what they describe as a “Legacy Water Project,” designed to benefit over 2,000 students, teaching staff, and non-teaching personnel at the historic “Angel’s Hill.”

The ambitious infrastructure project is powered by a 50KW HV hybrid solar system, featuring 35.12KWH of storage and a 28.56kWp solar pumping station. By harnessing renewable energy, the system will ensure uninterrupted access to clean water, mitigating challenges of water scarcity and power fluctuations, and allowing students to focus on academic excellence.

Speaking on the impact of the project, President of the 2001 Year Group, Anita Nadia Attah, said:

“This project is our ‘thank you’ to our alma mater. It is important to us to ensure that we mark twenty-five years of leaving Angel’s Hill with more than just memories. We are providing a clean, solar-powered water solution so that the precious time of the girls is focused on their learning, ensuring they have the environment they need to lead and excel.”

Mrs. Attah added, “As Sapphires, we are honored to lead the way back home, not just to celebrate, but to give back through our Legacy Water Project. We call on all HOPSANs to join us as we paint Cape Coast Sapphire Blue and Purple. We remain eternally grateful to all stakeholders who have supported us in diverse ways on this memorable journey.”

The week-long 80th anniversary celebrations, running from March 4 to March 8, will feature various activities, including Founder’s Day on March 5, the 80th Anniversary Speech and Prize Giving Day on March 7 – graced by Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as Special Guest of Honor and University of Ghana Vice Chancellor Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo as Chairperson, and a Thanksgiving Service on March 8 in the school chapel.

The celebrations aim to blend nostalgia with impact, uniting generations of HOPSANs, from the pioneers of 1946 to current students, in a tribute to sisterhood, service, and sustainability.
