Council of State member for the Western Region and CEO of Win Energy, Dr. Maxwell Boakye, has announced plans to construct a 50-bed children’s ward at Samartex Hospital in Samreboi. The $300,000 project aims to strengthen pediatric healthcare services in the Western Region.
Dr. Boakye explained that the initiative fulfils a long-held wish of his late mother and is intended to provide specialized care for children, easing pressure on the hospital’s existing facilities.
Speaking at a sod-cutting ceremony, he said: “This project is very personal to me. It represents a promise fulfilled in honour of my late mother’s passion for compassion and service to humanity.”
The announcement coincides with the one-year anniversary of the passing of Maame Agnes Appiah, whom Dr. Boakye described as a woman devoted to community welfare and the well-being of children.
He added that the Children’s Ward will serve as a lasting tribute to her legacy of care, compassion, and selfless service.
Community members and health officials at the ceremony welcomed the initiative, expressing optimism that the facility will improve healthcare outcomes for children and families in Samreboi and neighbouring communities.
Once completed, the 50-bed ward is expected to expand Samartex Hospital’s capacity and significantly enhance pediatric services across the Western Region.
