The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) will commence a major transformer replacement and upgrade exercise in parts of Accra as part of efforts to improve the reliability and stability of power supply.
The initiative, approved by the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, will involve the upgrade of 12 power transformers across six primary substations in Adenta, La, Teshie-Nungua, Nmai-Dzor, Baatsonaa and Lashibi.
The transformers will be upgraded from 20/26 MVA to 30/39 MVA, a move expected to significantly increase load capacity and reduce system overloads in rapidly growing communities.
ECG says the first phase of the exercise will begin on Wednesday, 8 April 2026, and is expected to be completed by Friday, 10 April 2026.
To ensure safety and facilitate installation works, the company has indicated that planned power outages will occur in affected areas.
According to operational schedules, outages will be implemented in rotational six-hour intervals across designated groups of communities, including areas such as East Legon Hills, Lakeside, Borteyman, Sakumono, Spintex and surrounding neighbourhoods.

The company noted that the intervention is a critical step toward enhancing system resilience and ensuring a more stable and efficient electricity supply nationwide.
Advisory to residents
Residents and businesses in the affected areas have been urged to take note of the outage schedules and make necessary arrangements.
ECG has also assured customers that every effort will be made to minimize disruptions during the exercise.
