A 22-year-old Ghanaian has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service for posing as an armed bandit and issuing threatening remarks, which triggered widespread fear and panic among the public.
According to a statement from the police, Evans Pupulampo who is a resident of Ashaiman was taken into custody on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Ashaiman Community 22 following sustained intelligence gathering and surveillance by police officers.
Pupulampo recorded a viral video with his face covered and carried the caption “We are starting from Ghana churches,” a post that generated significant concern and alarm across social media platforms.
Puplampu during interrogation admitted to being the individual in the footage claiming he had simply copied a similar trending pose he had seen on social media “for fun”.
He also insisted he had no intention of causing harm or panic with the video.
The statement from the police further noted that a Samsung Galaxy A15 mobile phone, believed to have been used to create and share the video, was recovered from the suspect and has been retained as an exhibit.
Puplampo remains in police custody, where he is assisting with ongoing investigations.
He is expected to be arraigned in court soon to face justice.
