Mrs Regina Akweley Oru has appealed to the management of the Ghana Police Service and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Yohuno, to investigate an interior decorating firm operating under the name Build and Decor over an alleged breach of contract relating to a shop-furnishing project.
Mrs Oru alleges that she engaged Build and Decor in March 2025 to furnish her shop at Nanakrom, a suburb of Accra in the Adentan Municipality, following an agreement between the parties.
According to her, despite making payments towards the project, the agreed works were not completed within the stipulated timeframe, resulting in financial losses and other inconveniences.
She is requesting the Ghana Police Service to investigate the circumstances surrounding the transaction and determine whether any criminal wrongdoing may have occurred in relation to the payments made and the execution of the project.
Her appeal follows a civil suit she previously filed against the interior decorator, Mary Tsoene Nyatuame, and Commissioner of Police Joseph Oklu Gyamera. In the suit, she alleges that the police officer improperly intervened in the handling of her complaint.
Speaking during a media engagement on Monday, 3 August, Mrs Oru claimed she had earlier reported the matter to the police but believed her complaint was not handled fairly.
“I reported the case earlier, but because she knows this senior police officer, she informed him about it, and I believe my complaint was not treated fairly. Do people who do not know influential individuals not deserve justice?” she said.
Mrs Oru further alleged that the police officer had used his position to influence the handling of the matter. Those allegations have not been determined by a court, and no response from the officer or the interior decorator was immediately available.
In her legal action, Mrs Oru is seeking a refund of more than GH¢100,000, which she says she paid towards the project, as well as additional damages and compensation arising from the dispute.
Mary Tsoene, who is named in the suit, when contacted, said she would comment on the matter after seeking advice from her lawyers.
