The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been called upon to intervene to ensure the return of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to Ghana.
According to private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu, this will save Ghana from unnecessary legal and diplomatic manoeuvres, which he described as a “needless rigmarole” that is draining the nation’s scarce financial resources.
Speaking on the latest developments regarding Ofori-Atta’s presence abroad, he argued that there is no external barrier preventing the former minister from returning to face the legal matters currently before the courts.
”It’s not as if the US government is preventing Ofori-Atta from coming. Ofori-Atta is free to self-deport, so he should come. He should just come down,” he said on Accra-based Citi FM monitored by Starrfm.com.gh.
The Lawyer further argued that the formal extradition process is an expensive legal avenue that is costing the “hundreds of thousands of dollars” for extradition proceedings.
He, therefore, called on former President Akufo-Addo, 2028 NPP flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, and the NPP Chairman to show “boldness” in resolving the matter by “pulling down Ken Ofori-Atta and ask him to self-deport”.

“They should be bold, ask Ofori-Atta to come down,” Kpebu urged, questioning why the former minister is abroad while other former government appointees are still in Ghana.
To him, Ofori-Atta’s return is essential to ending the international embarrassment and financial haemorrhage currently facing the country.
