The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has provided alternative pedestrian routes at Kaneshie following the temporary closure of the footbridges to ensure public safety and facilitate ongoing repair works.
The new designated pedestrian crossing points were expected to allow safe movement while the footbridges remain closed.
Addressing residents, drivers, and commuters at the site during the creation of the routes on Thursday, the Mayor, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey appealed for full cooperation with the new traffic and safety arrangements, stressing that discipline on the roads was crucial to protecting lives.
He urged drivers to desist from parking along the roadside, explaining that such practices contributed to congestion and obstructed pedestrian movement.
He appealed to drivers to respect traffic regulations and give pedestrians the right of way, especially at designated crossing points, noting that failure to do so could result in fatal consequences.
