Two suspected armed robbers have been shot dead by police following a robbery attack on a mobile money vendor at Tema Community 5.
According to a statement from the Ghana Police Service, the incident occurred on Monday, April 13, 2026, at about 8:30 a.m. at Aba Fosuah Plaza.
Police said one of the suspects, posing as a customer, approached the vendor to conduct a cash-out transaction. However, the situation quickly turned violent.
“As the victim retrieved her phone… the suspect pulled out a pistol and demanded that she surrendered the bag containing cash,” the statement said.
The victim reportedly resisted, leading to a struggle during which she was shot in the leg before the suspects fled the scene on a motorbike.
A nearby police patrol team responded swiftly after receiving a distress call and pursued the suspects toward Community 6. During the chase, the suspects opened fire on the officers.
“The Police returned fire, and in the ensuing exchange, both suspects sustained gunshot wounds and fell off the motorbike,” the statement added.
The suspects were rushed to the Police Hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival. Their bodies have since been deposited at the mortuary for identification and autopsy.
A search conducted on them led to the retrieval of a pistol with ammunition, mobile phones, assorted SIM cards, a Ghana Card, and cash amounting to GH¢11,390.
Police later confirmed that the Ghana Card found on the suspects belonged to the robbery victim.
The injured vendor is currently receiving treatment and is said to be in stable condition.
The Tema Regional Police Command assured the public of its commitment to maintaining security and urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
