Members of the Coalition of Unpaid Teachers have demonstrated against the government demanding
an immediate settlement of their salaries.
The group’s leadership made it clear that their agitation extends beyond bank balances, insistting it is a fight to ensure that no future generation of teachers faces similar financial hardship.
The National Organiser of the coalition, Eugene Zoranu Segbefia, expressed deep-seated frustration felt by thousands of educators across the country.
“We are saying enough is enough. Teachers should not continue to be treated this way. Whether it happened before or not, it must not happen again,” Segbefia stressed.
Segbefia noted that the current situation mirrors past administrative failures—a “second time in the history of Ghana” that the coalition is determined to prevent.
The group further called on the President, John Dramani Mahama, to intervene, noting that the current situation mirrors past administrative failures.
“We are pleading with the President to listen to our call and respond to our concerns…teachers deserve better,” Segbefia stressed.
The teachers at the demonstration made several demands including immediate disbursement of all outstanding salary arrears, a formal commitment to streamline the payment process for newly recruited teachers and policy reforms to prevent the reoccurrence of “legacy debts” within the Ghana Education Service (GES).
