Former Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Ibrahim Bashiru, has asserted that critics of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will, in time, regret their attacks and publicly apologise.
Speaking in an interview with Lily Mohammed on GH Today on GHOne TV on Monday, April 13, 2026, Bashiru said he hopes the former president lives long enough to witness a shift in public opinion.
“Look, I pray to God, Lily, that God should give Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo some more years. You know why? Just for two things to happen to his life before he leaves this world.”
According to him, one of those moments will be when critics who once attacked Akufo-Addo begin to retract their statements.
“I am waiting for a day when people who were on TV, on radio, on social media, civil society, the attacks… the insults that Akufo-Addo received… I want to see a day where serious critics of Akufo-Addo will sit on TV and say, ‘Nana, we are very sorry for some of the things we said about you’.”
He emphasised that “if God should give Akufo-Addo a long life, people are going to start apologising to him.”
Bashiru stressed that the achievements of the Akufo-Addo administration, particularly with support from Mahamudu Bawumia, would become more evident over time. He pointed to the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy as one of the key reasons he believes history will be kinder to the former president. “I think even that alone, Akufo-Addo should be happy.”

“And the second one will be for Ghanaians… By the end of these people’s [NDC] tenure of office, when Ghanaians begin to see the true length of the NDC, they will say, ah, Akufo-Addo, we didn’t know.” He said, adding that, “after all, you will know what we are made to believe. It will come.”
He maintained that with time, Ghanaians will reassess the former president’s legacy and acknowledge his contributions more positively.
