A major technical fault at the Ghana Gas Processing Plant has led to power outages in parts of the country following a temporary curtailment of gas supply to thermal power plants.
In a joint statement issued by Ghana National Gas Company and Ghana Grid Company, authorities confirmed that the disruption was caused by the complete failure of the Burner Management System (BMS) controller for the Heat Medium System (HMS).
The incident triggered an emergency shutdown of the processing plant, cutting gas supply to power producers and leading to electricity supply interruptions in some areas.
The two institutions say Engineers are currently undertaking a comprehensive technical and safety assessment to determine the most effective and secure pathway to restore operations.
“A dedicated team has been deployed and is working around the clock to replace the damaged system and expedite restoration efforts,” the release noted
Authorities have apologized for the inconvenience and urged the public to bear with them, assuring that timely updates will be provided as the situation evolves.
