Economic turnaround in Mahama’s second term “unprecedented” – Archbishop Dr Agyinasare

Archbishop Dr. Charles Agyinasare has reacted to Ghana’s rapid economic recovery under President John Dramani Mahama

The founder of Perez Chapel International, Archbishop Dr. Charles Agyinasare has described the economic performance of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government as “unprecedented” in Ghana’s Fourth Republic.

In an interview with Bola Ray on Starr Chat on Starr FM, the clergyman who said he has witnessed the administration of various Ghanaian leaders for close to six decades expressed surprise at the speed of the country’s recent economic recovery.

His assessment, he said, was based on predictions by economic pundits that it would take a decade to stabilize the nation’s debt; but the current government managed to shift the dynamics within just six months.

“We haven’t seen the nation shift the way it has shifted,” he said.

He specified the appreciation of the cedi against the dollar and the fulfilment of IMF loan obligations as part of the reasons for his conclusion.

The absence of government scandals over the past year, the Archbishop continued, is “worthy of commendation.”

The Fight Against Galamsey

The man of God pushed back claims that men of God who were hitherto vociferous on issues of illegal mining had remained silent.

His advocacy against galamsey, he revealed, had included authoring academic articles and preaching extensively on the effects of galamsey.

“We are not where we were…there are forests that have been taken over back by the government,” he said.

He therefore urged Ghanaians to offer praise where it is due rather than focusing solely on criticism.
