One person has been confirmed dead and several others injured after unknown gunmen opened fire on a group of market women in Bawku Township.
The victims, all residents of Bawku, were reportedly returning from trading activities outside the township when they were attacked. One woman died on the spot, while others were rushed to hospital with varying degrees of injuries.
Security personnel have since been deployed to the area, with investigations underway to identify and arrest those responsible for the attack.
Although the motive remains unclear, some residents suspect the attack may be linked to efforts to deter locals from trading at the Kusasi market. However, the police have not confirmed this claim.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement, but the Ghana Police Service is expected to provide updates after preliminary investigations.
The incident has heightened tension in Bawku, a town that has witnessed periodic security disturbances in recent years.
