The Head of Corporate Affairs at Ghana Gas, Richard Kirk-Mensah has blamed the intermittent power outages experienced in various parts of the country on repair works being carried out by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
Speaking on Starr FM’s morning show, Morning Starr, on Monday, April 20, 2026, he listed aging or faulty transformers within the ECG and distribution network and infrastructure upgrades as part of the reasons for the outages.
“That has nothing to do with Ghana Gas. That has a lot to do with ECG and their transformer issues,” he explained, noting that the Minister of Energy has already directed a “serious swift action” to install new transformers in affected areas to provide permanent relief to consumers.
The Head of Corporate Affairs at Ghana Gas however stated that the company has successfully restored its Central Processing Systems (CPU) following a critical equipment fault; an act which will pave the way for a more stabilized national power grid.
This, he said will help normalize the country’s power supply as the facility returns to full operational capacity.
According to Kirk-Mensah, the CPU which has been running on a manual override system since Thursday, to maintain supply before a brief scheduled shutdown for the final installation of replacement parts on Sunday.
Kirk-Mensah further commended the local engineering team for their “serious swift action” in preventing a total system collapse while waiting for the new components.
“Ghana is blessed. Since 2016, when the Chinese technical teams left, Ghana Gas has been managed solely by Ghanaian technicians and engineers. Through our technical team and management, we were able to keep the plant stable during this period until the replacement was brought in yesterday,” he said.
Kirk-Mensah assured the energy will now have a significant reduction in generation-related instability with the new CPU installed that will help the plant to operating at maximum capacity.
