Former Member of Parliament for Kumbungu, Ras Mubarak, has called for a generational shift in public appointments, stating that individuals aged 70 and above should not be considered for key leadership positions in governance.
Speaking on The Verdict on Starr 103.5 FM, he argued that while experience and expertise are important, public appointments should be restructured to create space for younger people to take on leadership roles.
“I don’t believe in 70-plus-year-olds being on boards,” he stated. “Regardless of the expertise, the knowledge, the experiences and everything, I don’t believe in that.”

His comments come as part of a broader call for what he suggests should be a more balanced approach to public appointments by the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“What I think the party[NDC] is not doing right is that…. Strategically, you need to say, when we win this election, at least every region, every constituency has to get something. At least there should be a balance,” he said.
Mubarak maintained that a more balanced distribution of appointments would be critical in sustaining support and addressing concerns of exclusion among key constituencies.
